Diane Dottavio, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Dottavio has over 15 years of diverse experience in molecular biology and biochemistry with 10 years in management. Dr. Dottavio has held positions with such prominent research and pharmaceutical companies as Novartis and Millenium Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Dottavio received her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Texas in Austin. She pursued postdoctoral studies at The University of Texas at Austin, University of California at San Diego, La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation, and the Roche Institute for Molecular Biology in Nutley, NJ.

Sam H. Lindsey, Jr.
Chief Financial Officer & Chief Compliance Officer

Mr. Lindsey brings over 35 years of experience in both the public and private accounting sectors, most recently serving as the Controller for R Construction, Inc., a privately held oilfield construction company with over 100 employees.  Prior to this, Mr. Lindsey was the CFO and Treasurer of Reconversion Technologies, Inc., a publicly traded start-up company.  Mr. Lindsey was also the Managing Partner of Lindsey & Phelps PC, a medium sized accounting firm where he specialized in auditing, accounting services, taxation, business consulting, and litigation support services.  Mr. Lindsey graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in accounting.

Mr. Lindsey is a District Governor for the Lions Club International and is a Life Member of the Texas Lions Camp.  He is also a Life Member of the Lions Eyes Bank and the recipient of two Lion of the Year awards, two 100% Director awards to the Texas Lions Camp, Three Club Extensions Awards, a Key Member Award, International Presidents Growth Award, and is a Jack Wiech and Melvin Jones Fellow.

Advisory Committee

Alan B. Lumsden, M.D.

Dr. Lumsden is currently Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in HoustonTexas. Previously, Dr. Lumsden served as Chief of General Vascular Surgery at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA.

At Baylor, Dr. Lumsden splits his time between managing his practice as Chief of Vascular and Endovascular surgery and directing a team of doctors, nurses, and technicians, to perform innovative clinical studies that incorporate new technologies to study, diagnose, and improve treatments for vascular disease. He has contributed more than 200 articles to scholarly and professional journals; authored or co-authored 29 book chapters; participated in 40 scientific exhibitions; and made 171 presentations to professional audiences. His subjects have included the study and treatments of aortic aneurysms, endovascular surgery in kidneys, cardiovascular disease, and vascular and endoscopic vascular surgery.

Caroline E. Fife, M.D.

Dr. Fife is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at The University of Texas-Houston Medical School.  Dr. Fife is also currently the Medical Director of the Memorial Hermann Center for Wound Healing in Houston, Texas, a wound center she founded in 1990.

Dr. Fife earned her BS in Medical Science from Texas A&M University in 1982, and received her MD from Texas A&M College of Medicine in 1984. She currently serves as President of Intellicure, Inc. a company which provides electronic medical records for wound centers. She has served as President of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, is on the Divers Alert Network Board of Directors, and NOAA's Diving Medical Review Board. She is on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Wound Management, and is co-editor of "Wound Care Practice," a textbook on the assessment and management of chronic wounds.

Craig J. Hartley, Ph.D.

Dr. Hartley is currently a Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences in the Department of Medicine of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He has also been a member of the National Institutes of Health's Study Section for Small Business Innovation Research proposals for over a decade.

Since 1970 Dr. Hartley has been involved in the design, development, application, and commercialization of ultrasonic instrumentation for cardiovascular measurements. A major interest has been the miniaturization of ultrasonic sensors for catheter and implantable devices used in both clinical and research applications. Several of these sensors and systems are now being manufactured and are used in several thousand laboratories worldwide.

Dr. Hartley has four patents granted for devices and probes in the area of transluminal angioplasty as well as one for an implantable biological sensor probe, and an epicardial and multifunctional probe. Additionally, Dr. Hartley's work has been cited in over 150 publications in medical journals, reports, and books throughout his career. His most recent publications and professional accomplishments show a concentration on works relating to cardiovascular functions, cardiac electrophysiology, and the design of several Doppler ultrasound techniques, sensors and velocimeters.

Nathan Blumberg, M.D.

Dr. Blumberg is a Board Certified Urologist and recently retired from Urological Surgery at St. John's Episcopal Hospital (now renamed St. Catherine of Sienna). He now is affiliated with the Urological Department at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. He is a graduate of NYU University and received his M.D. from St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Dr. Blumberg possesses extensive experience in the successful commercialization of medical devices and has filed a patent application on urinary stent designs. 

Yong-Jian Geng, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Geng is a Director of the Heart Failure Research Lab at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas.  Dr. Geng’s areas of expertise include: cardiovascular gene expression, apoptosis, lipoprotein metabolism, transgenic mice, gene and cell therapy, and tissue engineering.

In addition to his appointment to the Texas Heart Institute, Dr. Geng is also director of the Center for Cardiovascular Biology and Atherosclerosis Research at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Medicine. His research program focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying the most common cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and cardiomyopathy or chronic heart failure. Dr. Geng is a part of a team of scientists, led by James T. Willerson, M.D, President-elect Texas Heart Institute and former Editor and Chief of Circulation, which has demonstrated that heart stem cells transplanted into animals can develop into new cardiovascular tissue.

Dr. Geng is the recipient of the Fourjay Foundation Cardiovascular Research Award and was honored with the Pfizer Foundation Award for Vascular Immunology. He was named as an emerging leader in cardiology by Emerging Science of Lipid Management and was invited to serve on the program committee for the American Heart Association's Asia Pacific Scientific Forum in April 2002.
